Bright Expanding Light Filmed Across Six Chilean Cities; Officials Request Original Footage
This scan turned up one report worth your attention: a bright, spreading light filmed from six Chilean cities on the same night. It is a few days old, but it is still circulating, and Chile's official UAP office has now asked for the original footage. Here is what is known, what isn't, and the most likely ordinary explanation.
Expanding light filmed across six regions of Chile
What was reported: On the night of October 24–25, 2026, people in San Antonio, Concón and Hijuelas (Valparaíso Region), Chillán (Ñuble), Talcahuano (Biobío) and Osorno (Los Lagos) recorded a bright light that seemed to expand across the night sky. Reports say it lasted only a few minutes.
Evidence: Several videos from different locations, gathered into a roughly ten-minute compilation by the social-media account Tío OVNI Chile from clips sent in by followers. Chilean outlet Radio Imagina reported it on October 26, and Argentine outlets Tiempo de San Juan and LM Neuquén followed on October 28. According to LM Neuquén, SEFAA, the anomalous aerial phenomena office under Chile's civil aviation authority (DGAC), has asked for the original files because social media compresses and alters video. No official conclusion has been released.
Verifiability: Moderate. Witnesses in cities hundreds of kilometers apart filmed it the same night, which points to a real, high-altitude event rather than a hoax. But the clips were collected through a single social account, the witnesses are not named, and there is no radar or official confirmation yet.
Likely ordinary explanation: A rocket. China launched a Long March 8A carrying a batch of SatNet internet satellites from the Hainan commercial launch site at 02:03 UTC on October 25, which was 11:03 p.m. on October 24 in central Chile, the same night as the sightings. Rocket stages that vent or burn fuel at high altitude while still in sunlight produce exactly this kind of glowing, expanding cloud, sometimes called a "space jellyfish." News reports note that the link between this launch and the Chilean footage has not been confirmed, and Chinese statements do not mention it. Until SEFAA reviews the originals, the honest label is: unexplained so far, with a strong ordinary candidate.
Also checked this scan: the Carabao Cup match between Arsenal and Fleetwood Town on October 27 was briefly stopped for an object over the stadium, which some fans called a UFO. Reports identify it as a drone, and its operator was located, so it does not qualify as a sighting.
Saw a strange light yourself? Before you post it, run it through our Is it a UFO? checker, which walks you through launches, satellites, planets and drones. If you want footage investigators can actually use, steady it: a simple phone tripod mount and an unedited original file make a big difference.
